Stand Up To Cancer

Tonight Try Change highlights a new initiative called Stand Up To Cancer. As stated on their website part of Stand Up To Cancer's Mission Statement says:
"Cancer takes one person every minute. One life in a moment. They are our brothers, our sisters, our fathers and mothers, our husbands and wives, our best friends, our children, ourselves. Every day in America 1500 people die and yet the means to save them are literally within our reach. To wait any longer for someone else to save our lives and the lives of those we love is unforgivable.

Inspired to act by our own personal experiences with cancer, we recognize that we can no longer rely on the current system alone to give us the breakthroughs we need. So, we are calling on the public to help take matters into our own hands, investing in a revolution that will change the way scientist and clinicians work to understand and treat these diseases. Stand Up To Cancer is more than a rallying cry. It is a galvanizing force created to urgently move cancer research forward.

This is where the end of cancer begins: when we unite in one unstoppable movement and Stand Up To Cancer."

We are the one's we have been waiting for...

Both of our families have been touched by Cancer and so this cause is particularly close to our hearts. We invite you to visit the Stand up to Cancer website and see how you can make a difference. You can even create a star in honor of a loved one who is or has fought cancer.

Vote The Environment

In this political season it can be pretty tough to find out where the presidential candidates stand on certain issues. Well if the environment is a top issue for you, Try Change has a great resource we would like to share with you. It's called Vote The Environment and the web address is: http://www.votetheenvironment.org/.

On this site you can select from three resources to gage where the four candidates stand on the environment. The three sources are Grist, Project Vote Smart and the League of Conservation Voters.

Resources and information on people and organization that are making a difference can be found in Try Changes favorite magazine which is Good Magazine. This magazine is chocked full of valuable information on political and social issues that affect us all. What's also great about Good Magazine is that 100% of your subscription payment is donated to a nonprofit partner of your choice.

Positive Quote

I'm a big believer in positive thinking and finding daily sources of inspiration. One easy way to find positive quotes is to make a stop to your nearest bookstore and purchase The Book of Positive Quotations compiled and arranged by John Cook.

Here's today's quote on Visualization:

"What man can imagine he may one day achieve"- Nancy Hale

I believe one of the greatest obstacles in achieving success is the fact that people cannot visualize themselves as being successful. In my case it's been my dream of developing Try Change LLC. I had the idea but more importantly, I had to believe in the idea of a new line of shirts. If I did not believe in Try Change, how in the world would I be able to convince anyone else in taking a chance on a new line of apparel.

If there's one thing that I've learned in sales it's that they are not buying the product they are buying you and your knowledge and belief in the product.

So surround yourself with positive thoughts, people and places and watch your dreams come true!

Speaking of which... :-)

One Giant Step

Today Try Change received orders from five stores in the Northern Virginia area!
Our Try Change shirts will be in the three Fashion Mechanics stores located in the Landmark Mark in Alexandria , Springfield Mall in Springfield and the Potomac Mills Outlet Mall in Woodbridge. We are also in the Capitol Grind store in the Landmark Mall and the 2Excess store in the Springfield Mall. The orders take 30 days to complete so the shirts will be in the store by June 27th at the latest.

Radio Station WKYS is also in negotiations with us to do a live remote broadcast of our launch from the Fashion Mechanics store in Potomac Mills. We even have shot several videos for YouTube this weekend. The first one is a quick introduction with the other ones showing me out on actual sales calls in the area. Click here to check out the intro!

The First

This is my first Mother's Day since my mom passed. I thought I would have gone to Atlantic City today since we often went there on Mothers Day. But as life would have it I have many things to catch up on today, Try Change videos to shoot, hotel work to catch up on and cleaning around the house. Actually I think that it was a good decision to stay home and do my assignments and reflect on my mom.

I owe so much to my mom, she helped me get into the Army, made sure I attended college and supported me in everything I tried to do in my career. In a way I'm thankful I am busy today, without her support I could have plenty of time on my hands to do nothing.

There's alot I could say about by mom, I could talk about her generosity, compassion and love she had for everyone. She bought me my first Jimmy Hendrick and Frank Sinatra albums, she encouraged me when I started Try Change LLC.

There are so many things but one thing does stand out for me. I have two brothers and two sisters all of us are over forty years of age and right up until the day she died called her Mommy.

Happy Mothers Day Mommy.
Love,
Vince

Everyone Can Help

Here's a great story of how everyone can help:

High Point Regional High School in Sussex, NJ is made up of special need students but that did not stop them from helping our brave soldiers currently serving in Iraq. Each year the school holds a charity for the annual Make a Difference Day and this year they selected to help our troops.

Throughout the year the students raised funds during high school and local church events. Hearing that many of our soldiers do not have enough money to call home they decided to use the money to purchase phone cards. The students not only collected funds but they also collected letters written by individuals for the soldiers. The class ended up collecting over 1,700 letter's and $3,300 worth of phone cards.

Army Lt. Gen. Ray Odiero, then-commanding general for the Multi- National Corps Iraq summed it up best when he said "These (students) are extraordinary individuals who cares about others"

A Cool Experience

I stopped by the 2Excess store in the Springfield Mall today to follow up on some samples we had placed in the store. I was in the middle of a conversation when I noticed a couple walk into the store. There were about ten shirts against the wall , all surrounding my new Try Change shirt. The man walked up and touched my shirt. I took the opportunity to introduce myself as the founder of Try Change. He said "this is something different, very positive with a cool design". He asked me how much the shirt was and if he could purchase the shirt. I told him it was a sample but gave him my card, website address and printed information. I went onto tell him the Try Change story, which he really connected with.

I would have to say that was a very cool experience! The first order of shirts will be delivered to the three stores shortly. I cannot wait to see the results!

Stay tuned for more updates!!

Make A Difference Day Awards

At Try Change we recently came across a great story in the NYC Daily News USA Weekend magazine. The article highlighted the magazines 17th annual Make A Difference Day which was held on October 27th. In the U.S over 3 million people went out of their way to assist others in need. In the United Kingdom almost 600,000 people took part and in Brazil over 3 million participated in this worthy cause.

Here's the story of just one such effort:

In Sinclairville, NY 13 kindergartner Daisy Girl Scouts secretly cleared the yard full of apples (Bob has an apple tree) of Bob Peterson who is a 88 year old World War Two veteran of all the apples laid on the lawn. They then made pies and treats from the fruit and delivered them to Bob.

The article closes with " For Peterson who lives alone and visits his wife daily at a nursing home, the treats-and affection-were touching"

"It just made my day"

To Troop 319 of Sinclairville NY- Thank You- we all can learn from you!

At Try Change we celebrate those who take the time to help others. We encourage everyone to find the time in our busy days to give back in some form. Even if it's just baking an apple pie for a veteran.

Please help us spread the Try Change mission by joining one of our communities. Encourage others in your network to do the same.
