Community Participation

Sharing positive stories is contagious!

Today's subject comes from one of Try Change's Community members. Melissa is a friend and co-worker who has supported Try Change from the very beginning. Actually Melissa purchased the first Try Change shirt. On Monday Melissa submitted a story from nbc4.com that reported on a very interesting survey conducted by The Associated Press and MTV. The purpose of the survey was to find out who young Americans selected as their hero's. Twenty-nine percent choose their mothers, 21 percent chose their fathers and 16 percent picked their parents without indicating which one. Eleven percent chose their friends, 10 percent God, 8 percent their grandmother, 7 percent their brother and 5 percent their teacher or professor. Others mentioned were the U.S Military, police officers, firefighters and coaches. The most frequently mentioned historical figure mentioned was Martin Luther King with four percent. What makes young Americans happy? According to the survey - spending time with their families. Also about half of the respondents said religion and spirituality is very important. What a great survey!

As we get older we may at times feel the younger generation is totally wrapped up in "Sex , Drugs and Rock N' Roll" but according to this one survey there's more than meets the eye. This is an example of what we are all about at Try Change. To promote Peace, Diversity, Hope, Faith and Positive Change.
Thanks Melissa!
